About
My passion for service began when my family took me to a local food pantry to volunteer. After many years of volunteering in many capacities, I wanted to find new ways to contribute to the organization. I love visiting u-pick farms and bringing heaping containers of fruit and vegetables home, but I often picked more than I could use. In an effort to combat food waste, I started donating the overflow produce to the pantry. I realized that I could turn our fun family activity into a meaningful community service project. After finding a passion for computer science in high school, I envisioned a way to connect my interests. I created this website to connect volunteers (simply anyone interested in visiting a U-pick farm) with local farmers and food banks. By making the connection between picking fruit and vegetables and food insecurity, we support local farmers and provide fresh food to those in need. I hope that picking and giving produce will become a fun and engaging way to introduce children to the topic of food insecurity, embolden them to become change-makers and become a sustainable solution to combat food insecurity, support local farms and eliminate food waste.
